Free to Tax
Yay! I’ve been taxed too the limit.
As much as I love paper and pens, I hate it when they come in the form of paperwork. Worse, I was born in the United States and moved to Canada. Translation: two sets of tax-paperwork to fill out and file.
The ironic part is that having made under $12,000 CA in 2004, I don’t need to file in Canada, but by making well over $3,000 US I must file to the IRS. However, I get an exemption of up to $80,000. Doing the math, the IRS owes me a tick over 70 grand. Ha.
I know that wasn’t funny.
As my pending citizenship to Canada will comes to fruit soon, the question is, will I decide to have dual citizenship and face double of what I hate most in life- paperwork? Or do I abandon my US Citizenship for the sake of one less annual headache, even if it breaks the hearts of all my US relatives?
I will update.
